About: Journalism is a second career for Ann, who began her professional life in new product development for American companies expanding their business overseas, giving her the opportunity to live in several countries in Europe and Latin America. She is a Durango native who joined The Durango Herald in her mid-40s as the Neighbors columnist in 2000 and enjoys helping to build community by reporting on the nonprofit, service club and human interest stories in La Plata County. In 2004, she became a full time staff writer and columnist. Wearing many hats, she also covers the education beat, weather and breaking news as well as writing features for the Religion Page and other parts of the paper. For more than 10 years, she was on the obituary beat, helping families tell the life stories of people connected to Southwest Colorado who had died. One of many members of the Herald staff who contributed to the Herald's Sigma Xi Award for coverage of the Missionary Ridge Fire in 2002, Ann has won a plethora of awards from the Colorado Press Association, Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters and the Society of Professional Journalists.
