Skyhawks slump reaches seven games

UC-Colorado Springs sweeps FLC in the first of two RMAC doubleheaders
Chelsea Rodriguez scored the only two runs in a 5-2 loss for the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks on Friday against UC-Colorado Springs. After belting a solo-home run in the first inning, she slid head first to score in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Fort Lewis College’s Chelsea Rodriguez hopes her team can find a way to come up with more clutch hits as the season winds toward a close. On a seven-game losing streak, the Skyhawks are hoping to climb back up in the RMAC standings. “Hitting is 10-percent skill and 90-percent luck a lot of the time, and we aren’t getting any of that luck,” she said.
Fort Lewis College’s Kaitlyn Bending couldn’t outrun the throw of UC-Colorado Springs third baseman Claire Nibbe on Friday at Aspen Field. She went 0-for-2 at the plate in the 5-2 loss.
Myndee Thompson got ahead of a pitch against UC-Colorado Springs pitcher Jessica Belsterling, but she hit it foul. Thompson was 0-for-2 at the plate in a 5-2 loss for the Skyhawks.
