Indians put out Demons’ fire

Emily Fogel and the rest of the Durango Demons crashed back to Earth on Friday night as Montrose ended the Demons’ four-game winning streak. Fogel finished the game with zero points on 0-for-4 shooting from the field as the Demons shot just 25 percent from the field.
Durango High School senior Emily McCue couldn’t get the Demons past a tall and tough Montrose team, but she did score a team-high nine points while hauling in five rebounds on senior night.
Montrose was too tall for Augusta Brockus and the rest of the Durango Demons to get to the basket Friday night at Durango High School. “It is hard because they are all bigger,” DHS head coach Nancy Smith said.
The Durango Demons and senior guard Jenny Welbourn looked to get the ball inside the paint all night, but Montrose’s defense was too tough for the Demons to get anything going.
Durango junior guard Katire Wiegert showed a sweet left hand on Valentine’s Day, but it was Montrose that enjoyed the spoils Friday night in a 44-33 win for the Indians.
