100 years ago: “The Wright Amusement Company vaudeville artists, are drawing the big crowds to the Gem Theater. Their movies are fine, and each evening they put on three vaudeville acts of good merit. Last night they featured ‘Jesse James,’ tonight the ‘Midnight Express,’ and tomorrow they will close their engagement here with ‘Sapho.’”
75 years ago: “Well, the big two-day Spanish Trails Fiesta for this year is now nothing but a memory, but thousands of people who saw the shows will retain that memory and return next year for more.”
50 years ago: “More rooms are needed for tourists. The tourist load has been so heavy recently that all motels, hotels and rooms in private homes have been filled. Motels and private homes in the surrounding area with rooms to rent are asked to call the chamber of commerce.”
25 years ago: “Damage from overweight trucks traveling to and from gas facilities is forcing emergency repairs on two county roads. The La Plata County Commissioners approved an unplanned $43,800 to buy gravel for repairs to four county roads, two of which have been damaged by gas industry traffic.”
