A La Plata County woman was apparently hallucinating when she called police Monday to say she was being held at gunpoint against her will, law enforcement said.
Kalisha Hughes, 29, was booked into the La Plata County jail on suspicion of violating bail conditions for an unknown previous offense, said Dan Bender, spokesman with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.
Hughes called police at 2:45 p.m. to report she was being held against her will at a home in the 5000 block of La Posta Road (County Road 213), south of Durango.
“It appeared to be that she was hallucinating,” Bender said. “Whatever the cause of the hallucination was, I don’t know.”
She was not charged with false reporting because when she made the report, she was unaware it wasn’t real and wasn’t doing it for malicious reasons, Bender said.
The Sheriff’s Office investigated the case for 45 minutes to an hour before determining it was an unfounded report.
