A four-month reconstruction of about 2 miles of County Road 120, west of Breen in southwest La Plata County, will begin Monday.
The work, from the 300 block to the 2500 block, is being completed as part of the required road improvements for the GCC Energy coal mine land-use permit. Four Corners Materials will be the project contractor.
Work is expected to be complete by the end of August.
Working hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Traffic may be reduced to one lane while work is in progress.
Delays of up to 15 minutes should be anticipated. Megan Graham, county spokeswoman, said in a news release every work schedule will try to minimize traffic delays.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and to drive with caution through the work zone for their safety and the safety of the work crews.
In 2019, La Plata County approved an expansion allowing GCC Energy’s King II mine to operate on an additional 2,462 acres near Hesperus.
Road improvements were required as part of the approval of the expansion.
