Sheep are starting to come down from their high-country pastures, and all are welcome to two days of events on Friday and Saturday for Bayfield Heritage Days and Sheep Trailing.
The Bar D Wranglers will perform Friday night at the old Bayfield gym on South Street. A barbecue brisket dinner will be served, along with entertainment by Agave, a local folk music group. Tickets are $20 each and are available at the door. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner starting at 6:30.
On Saturday, scheduled events include:
8 a.m. Family 5K Fun Run sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 506, $20 entry fee. The troop also will sell breakfast burritos. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.
9 a.m. Running of the sheep on County Road 521! They run on sheep time, so they'll be there when they get there. Please do not bring dogs to the sheep trailing.
9:30 a.m., or after the sheep trailing, Heritage Days Parade sponsored by the Bayfield Lions Club. Parade marshals are Geri Lasater, Debbie Janus and Carole McWilliams, who were members of the original organizing committee for Heritage Days in 2000.
10 a.m. Disc Dog Demo at the south end of Joe Stephenson Park by Jenni Berkman.
10 a.m. Hay wagon rides and Farm Bureau Ag Trailer.
10 a.m. Children's activities sponsored by Pine River Library and Pine River Centennial Rotary.
11 a.m. Kid's field day fun sponsored by Momentum Fitness.
1 p.m. Hay bale carry competition at the south end of the park, sponsored by Momentum Fitness, The Billy Goat Saloon and AJ's Greenhouse.
As is always the case, times are approximate since the events run on sheep time!
On Saturday night, there is a fireworks show in Joe Stephenson Park at dusk.
