Its not over yet, but Fort Lewis College head coach Cesar Rivas-Sandoval is excited about 20 new football recruits on national signing day.
Our blueprint is recruiting young men who have great character and have a vested interest in obtaining their degree at Fort Lewis College, the Skyhawks third-year coach said.
FLC (3-8, 2-7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) tied for eighth in the 10-team league last year.
We had some areas to address with our second full season of recruiting under our belt, Sandoval said in a news release to The Durango Herald.
We had to get faster. We have improved tremendously in many areas, especially in the secondary and offensive skill positions. We have brought in a solid number of athletes who can play more than just one position, which will make us a more well-rounded football team.
Thirteen of the 20 recruits were from Colorado, including a wide receiver from Pagosa Springs and a defensive back/running back from Fruita Monument.
Daniel Puskas, 6-0, 160 pounds, is a wide receiver from Pagosa Springs High School. Mike Campbell, 5-11, 185 pounds, is a two-way player from Fruita Monument High School.
We still have a few areas to address, but we want to continue to look for the young man who will be the right fit for FLC football, Sandoval said. We will continue to recruit for a little while longer, as well as address a few more of our needs and add to our walk-on class.
FLC signed six skill players three running backs, including Campbell; two quarterbacks and one wide receiver (Puskar):
Trevor Bonifasi, QB, 6-0, 165, Anthem, Ariz.
Thomas Newman, QB, 6-0, 195, Vista Ridge High School, Colorado Springs.
Josh Beacham, RB, 5-7, 185, Pine Creek High School, Colorado Springs.
Colten Douillard, RB, 5-10, 170, Tahlequah, Okla.
Rivas said hes still recruiting, and he has a few positions in particular in mind.
We did not graduate any offensive linemen from last season. We added Robert Carlson, who we feel will be a great offensive tackle during his college career, but we would still like to add to that position as well as wide receiver and defensive tackle, Rivas said.
