Make room on those shelves.BHS baseball's got a couple more awards coming.
Earlier this month the Colorado High School Activities Association, in connection with ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.com, released its 2016 All-State Baseball Teams after a process including nominations from leagues and votes of head coaches. And despite an early exit into summer, via a loss to Lamar out on the Eastern Plains, four Wolverines were still selected and recognized.
Earning First Team All-3A, to nobody's surprise was senior infielder/pitcher/catcher Kelton McCoy.
Senior outfielder/pitcher Taed Heydinger and senior INF/P Zane Phelps were both named Second Team and senior OF/P Brody McGhehey was one of 25 players receiving Honorable Mention All-3A.
Factoring in this spring's 16-5 record, the quartet helped Bayfield go 70-18 overall-including a virtually-invincible 31-1 mark in Intermountain League action-during their four-year prep careers.
Arvada Faith Christian pitcher Austin Stone was named 3A's Player-of-the-Year after helping Coach-of-the-Year Ralph Nance and the Eagles go 20-6 overall, defeating Manitou Springs for the 2016 state championship. FCHS senior A.J. Stephens was also named First Team, as was LHS senior Braden Forney and MSHS senior Travis Struble.
