Full moon hike to be held Friday
Durango Nature Studies will hold a full moon hike, Hiking the Full Worm Moon, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Falls Creek.
Karen Hickerson will lead the hike. She will teach about moon facts, nighttime lore, tracking and natural history. Participants should bring snacks, a flashlight and an extra layer. The hike is free for members and $10 for nonmembers.

Dressage riding clinic to be held Sunday
An English dressage riding clinic will be held Sunday
The clinic is for basic to intermediate riders. The lesson will include accuracy of patterns, circles, riding down centerline, leg yielding, salutations and more.
Kerri Muchmore, who will lead the clinic, has trained in Europe.
There is a discount for multiple family riders. The cost is $25 per rider for a 1½ -hour lesson. Helmets and boots are required. Proceeds will benefit the Durango Pony Club.

Peace ecology is topic of discussion at FLC
The Fort Lewis College Peace Initiative and the Peace and Conflict Studies Minor will hold a free public discussion called Peace Ecology as a New Paradigm in Theory and Practice at 7 p.m. Monday in Noble Hall Room 130 at FLC.
The discussion will feature Randall Amster, a professor of cultural and regional studies at Prescott College and executive director of the Peace & Justice Studies Association.
Tax exemption covers disabled veterans
Disabled veterans who qualify will receive the state property tax exemption for 2011, affecting taxes payable in 2012. Fifty percent of the first $200,000 of the actual value of their primary residence is exempt. The state pays the tax on the portion that is exempt from property tax. To verify registration for the exemption, refer to the 2010 tax bill.
Disabled veterans should contact the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs for an application. The application deadline for disabled veterans is July 1 with the Division of Veterans Affairs.
The senior property tax exemption will not be available for the tax year 2011, affecting taxes payable in 2012, because of the lack of state funding.
Beekeeping class to be held in Bayfield
A free class, Hive Management, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Lavenia McCoy Public Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.
Beekeepers Tina Sebestyen and Carol Tyrrell will teach participants how to properly care for bees and manage hive. Advance sign up is appreciated but not required.
