After a slew of top-three finishes this season, Durangos golf game slightly slipped Thursday on Cobble Creek at Montrose; the Demons finished fifth in the 22-team tournament.
Not their best, Durango High School boys golf coach Kirk Rawles said. We left a few out there.
After more than six hours of golf, medalist Joey Faad shot a 3-under-par 69 to lead Fruita Monument to a 219 team score and first-place finish.
Montezuma-Cortez finished second at 226, Aspen third at 228, Montrose fourth at 233, and Durango and Gunnison tied for fifth at 238. Steamboat Springs shot a 239 for seventh.
Michael Thomas and Chad McClanahan led the Demons with a pair of matching 78s.
McClanahan played really well from tee to green, Rawles said. The senior was done in however by six 3-putts and one 4-putt.
Thats eight strokes right there, Rawles said. He struck the ball really well (Thursday), but he just couldnt put it in the hole.
Morgan Miller shot an 82 for the Demons varsity, while teammates Chris Brown shot an 89 and Cody Civiletto a 90.
The DHS JV shot a 253: Zach McFadden shot an 81, freshman Trevor Bogus an 84 and Chris Allen an 88.
