Freestyle skier Zak Watkins of Telluride, a former competitor with the Durango Freestyle Team, is currently ranked 12th nationally in moguls on the NorAm Grand Prix circuit.
Watkins finished seventh in the Canada Post NorAm Freestyle Frenzy Finals last weekend at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta.
Warren Tanner of Canada won the mogul competition with Watkins seventh.
The finish elevated Watkins to the No. 12 position in moguls in the North American tour that is the steppingstone tour to the World Cup. Watkins is No. 10 nationally in dual moguls.
Watkins has had three top 10-finishes in NorAm events at Killington, Vt., and Arapahoe Basin. He headed to Canada coming off a dual moguls victory at a Rocky Mountain event in Vail.
Watkins, a 2008 graduate of Durango High School, is the reigning Colorado Ski Country's Male All-Star Athlete of the Year.
Racing under the auspices of the Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club, Watkins has a competition fund in his name. Tax-deductible support can be directed to the TSSC, in care of the Zak Watkins NorAm Competition Fund, Box 2824, Telluride, CO 81435.
